COAG releases the National Strategy for Energy Efficiency

July 2

After consultation, the Government has released a draft National Strategy for Energy Efficiency, designed to accelerate energy efficiency efforts, to streamline roles and responsibilities across levels of governments, and to help households and businesses prepare for the introduction of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.

Part of this strategy is aimed at decreasing energy use and increasing the energy efficiency in buildings both new and old. One part of the strategy will entail compulsory provision of information on energy efficiency of both commercial and residential buildings to prospective purchasers and lessees through a compulsory Energy Efficiency Certificate, similar to the system currently used in Canberra.
