Commercial energy rating legislation passedJun 25, 2010 The passage of the Building Energy Efficiency Disclosure Bill means that compulsory disclosure of energy efficiency for commercial buildings will commence around October 2010. The scheme requires owners and lessors of commercial office space of more than 2000 square metres of net lettable space to disclose the energy efficiency rating to propsepctive tenants or purchasers when the space is to be sold, leased or sub-leased. There will be a transition period to October 2011, during which a valid National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) Energy Base or whole building rating can be shown rather than the Built Energy Efficiency Certificate (BEEC). The BEEC, required from around October 2011 will include a NABERS energy base building rating (must be included in advertising), a tenancy lghting assessment (benchmarking existing lighting against best practice) and energy efficiency guidance (general advice on achieving efficiency). More training of assessors is planned and a series of national workshops are planned for September 2010. |
